The South Australian Government will offer a free home battery to each householder who rebuilds their home lost in this summer’s devastating bushfires, under an arrangement with local battery manufacturer sonnen.
The installation of a battery in the rebuild will help make bushfire victims new homes more sustainable and resilient.
The batteries will be offered to the 188 families who lost their homes; with each battery worth more than $10,000, bushfire victims will benefit from reduced electricity bills, whilst adding value to their new home.
The South Australian Government secured local manufacturing of batteries in South Australia by sonnen in 2018, after negotiating a new agreement with the German company as part of the government’s plans to see 40,000 home batteries installed across the state.
The agreement allows the South Australian Government and sonnen to work together to promote local manufacturing of batteries in South Australia, which delivers local jobs and reduces electricity costs for households who have installed the batteries, as well as reducing peak power prices for everyone else.
